Congratulations to all of you who supported Senate Bill 687! On September 28, 2005, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill 687 into law. A coalition including the Education Trust-West, EdVoice, PICO California, and Public Advocates sponsored this legislation to ensure transparency in reporting education spending and to reveal disparities that persistently shortchange poor and minority children from receiving equitable resources. Senate Bill 687, authored by Senator Joe Simitian, requires the reporting of actual expenditures made at each school, lifting the veil of secrecy and ensuring that the school board and the public know where the dollars are really being spent.
